Two Days Old

Maddie with the all eight puppies this morning
The good -  We had a pretty nice night last night. We are still staying with the puppies almost around the clock, to help make sure that Maddie doesn't accidentily lay on any puppies, we had been nursing in the puppies in two smaller groups have given that up for now because we have a few puppies that don't like to be away from their mama, so now Maddie has a much bigger pile of puppies to keep an eye on.

We also feeding Maddie every few hours and encouraging her to drink as much water as possible so she can make enough milk to nurish the puppies. She is currently eating a beef liver gravy or chicken stock mixed in with her dog food, which she really seems enjoy.

The puppies seem to be doing really well. Someone is almost constantly eating and it shows in their increasing weights. This morning all the puppies have grown at least half and ounce in the last twelve hours. I tried to take a picture of each puppy while they were on the scale, but that proved hard than anticipated. They are a wiggly bunch, but here they all are.
Female - spot on head - 21 oz.
Female - spot on shoulder - 20 3/4 oz.
Female - spot on back - 20 1/4 oz.
Female - spot on rump - 21 1/2 oz.
Female - spot on tail - 14 oz.
Male - spot on head - 22 1/2 oz.
Male - spot on shoulder - 19 3/4 oz.
Male - spot on back - 23 1/2 oz.
The sad - The last puppy born has been having trouble eating and breathing properly since she was born. She had a long labor and experienced the extra stress of this longer amount of time. We had been feeding her some goats milk and karo syrup with a dropper since Monday night. Yesterday she began to get much weaker, she lost a full ounce and would no longer swollow the liquid that was put on her tongue. Last night realized that we would not be able to save her and at 1:10 this morning she died. Today we will take her out back and bury her near her grandmother.
Miley really liked to smell and kiss her sister's nose.
