Our Girls - Six Generations

We brought our first German Shepherd puppy home in the summer of 1988. Our children were four, three and one at the time and we were thrilled to have a puppy around the house for the kids to play with and for the extra sense of security a German Shepherd provided.

Over the years we would raise a litter of puppies about once a year and would watch for mild tempered puppies that we could raise and chose to stay with our maternal line. We are very happy with all of our shepherds as they haven't had health issues and we have never had any problems with their hips, which is a common concern in larger breeds. They have all trained easily and have never been aggressive towards our family or guests in our home. We currently have two shepherds and love knowing their history and feel confident that they will live a long and healthy life.

Smiling Duchess Miley - "Miley" - 6th Generation
Born March 30, 2012

Miley lives in Pittsburgh with our daughter and loves to go for walks around the city and playing with her puppy friends at the off-leash park. However, Miley is still a bit of a country dog and loves to come back to Gap to play with her sister in the fields and woods behind the house. Lisa hadn't had a dog of her own since Molly died in 2007 but was really excited to find a cute and loveable puppy.

Smiling Miss Royal Maureen - "Maurie" - 6th Generation
Born March 30, 2012
We had not intended to keep a second puppy from this litter (Miley and Maurie are litter mates) but as we watched and played with the puppies we quickly became attached to Maurie as well. She is an exceptionally well-mannered and quiet puppy and it doesn't hurt that she was really cute too. She has been one of the easiest dogs we have ever trained and her gentle spirit makes her a joy to have in our home
Smiling Lady Maddalyn - "Maddie" - 5th Generation
Born June 4, 2008

Molly died in 2007 and we had gone for almost two years without a German Shepherd. At the time we had a chocolate lab, but missed having a Shepherd. When my sister bred Marzie and we decided we wanted to keep one of her puppies. Maddie is very energetic and loves to take walks and play in the woods behind the house and would play fetch all day if we kept throwing the ball for her.

You might notice that her ears don’t stand up like all the others. She was sick during the time her ears were developing and gaining strength and we didn’t realize that it had affected her ears until it was too late. We tried a few things to help them stand and occasionally they do but not for long periods of time. We have heard from most of her puppies new families and none of them have had any issues with standing ears.

GCF Marzipan - "Marzie" - 4th Generation
Born August 15, 2003

Marzie is the only generation that did not actually grow up with our family. She was raised by my sister and family, who live just down the road. We frequently saw Marzie and she enjoyed playing with our dogs but got along just as well with the cats with whom she shared her house.

Smiling Mistress Molly - "Molly" - 3rd Generation
Born October 17, 1995

Molly was a birthday present to our second daughter when she turned twelve, and we could not have picked a better dog for her. Lisa took Molly to obedience training at the local pet store. Molly's gentle personality and great desire to please helped her quickly become a wonderfully trained puppy. Molly loved to go for walks but hated water and didn't like to play catch and as she aged she loved to sit near Lisa. Molly wouldn't leave her side as she would pack for college or after she would return after several months away.

Smiling Princess Minderella - "Mindy" - 2nd Generation
Born January 9, 1992

As we raised several litters of puppies we realized that they provided an excellent way to teach our children responsibility in a fun way. We gave our oldest daughter Mindy as her tenth birthday present.

Smiling Queen Marcella - "Marcie" - 1st Generation
Born May 17, 1988

Marcie was our first German Shepherd. At the time we also had a small cock-a-poo but really liked what we had heard about German Shepherds and their ability to be protective while also being gentle and playful enough to be part of a family with small children. Marcie didn't disappoint, she played nicely with our children and rarely bothered our other dog.
