Eleven Days Old

We had another great day! It was a day of several first. We are currently having our first snow of the season. The puppies are nice and toasty in their room but Maddie and the big girls are loving the snow. It hasn't amounted to much yet, but the grass is white and the flakes are large enough that the girls' backs were white when they came back inside. Miley in particular loves the snow, she ate some that was on the grass but will (hopefully) have to wait a few more weeks for any measurable snow to play in.

We also can now see the first little slits in the puppies' eyelids and the corners of the boy with the spot on his head's eyes. His are the only eyes that I can actually see at this point but it appears that several of the other puppies' eyes are starting to open and hopefully we will be able to see more of their eyes tomorrow.
This is the best picture I could get of our little boy's open eyes.
He was a bit squirmy and kept looking away from the cameral but
if you look closely at his right eye you can see a bit of his brand new blue eye!

The puppies are also getting much more mobile and today we had our first great escape. Our puppy nursery has two sections, the whelping area where the puppies have been living is a six by six kennel that has a door that can be shut to keep Maddie inside with the puppies, usually overnight or when I am not in the house. But most of the time the door is open and Maddie is able to come and go as she pleases but is still confined to a larger section of the basement (where is unable to get on the carpet or the couch). Until today the puppies have stayed in the smaller section. But this afternoon I heard a puppy screaming, when I hurried to the basement I found three of the puppies had left their room and where laying in the middle of the hard cold floor just crying. I think they had wandered out looking for Maddie but then got a bit disoriented and couldn't find their way back to their siblings. So lesson learned, I need to be a bit more careful about keeping the door shut until the puppies are a bit more stable on their feet and are able to get back to their room on their own.

I have posted a few videos of the puppies from this afternoon. They are walking around a bit but I think that until I got the camera they had worn themselves out a bit and were more content to just rest for a bit. I will try to get a few better videos in the next day or two.
